"Polterabend" is a word that comes from
German. The verb “poltern” itself bring the meaning of ‘making a lot of noise’
while the noun “Abend” means ‘evening’. It is totally not a same party for any
couple in this world that hold in several other countries. This party is
different, it has a lot of extraordinary actions especially in term how they
celebrates and enjoy the environment of the event. Most important, the actual
point of the custom is to breaking or throwing porcelain that has been brought
by the guests. Other than that, the items like stoneware, flower pots and
ceramics are also can be one of the items to break in front of the couple.
However, there is a prohibition about break the glasses as they represents
happiness and should never be broken or thrown away since German culture
believe breaking a mirror will bring seven years of bad luck.
