Polterabend is a Polish or German norm and based on
side note history lesson, the part of Poland was under German or Prussian
occupation for close to 300 years before World War I (WWI). During the moments,
everybody from the community that would like to come then wish to the
soon-to-be-married couple well is invited to bring a collection of porcelain
and smash the items on the porch of the bride’s house. Traditionally, the bride
and groom were supposed to clean the scattered up themselves to prove that they
would work together on the household chores. The people that “testing” them
could only be persuaded to stop throwing porcelain if the bride are done with
enough work.
